The Brian Simpson Tradition
This is The History of Your friendly local Cycle shop, Simpson Cycles, once called Clark Cycles, Also a toyshop at that time which many of our customers still remember today.
Howard Clarke owned the business and Brian Simpson joined him in 1947 at the age of 14. As a shop boy he worked his way up to be the Manager learning the trade as he went along until Brian Simpson took over the shop in 1972. His wife Maureen and his 2 sons Dean and Scott then moved to live above the shop. The family worked hard and the business was looking up. When Electronic toys became popular as a small shop it became hard to compete with the Bigger companies and so we decided to put them aside and concentrate solely on the cycle side of business.
This proved to be a good move and really progressed. We needed more space to develop with proper facilities for the workshop, office and showroom and so leased another property close to us, still expanding we then acquired the property next door to us and extended the showroom.
Dean joined his Dad in 1982 straight from school and Scott joined later on, they were taught all they know today by their Dad.
Brian Simpson sadly passed away in 2003, but we are happy to say Maureen, Dean and Scott still run the business today and pride themselves as being a Friendly and helpful cycle shop, carrying on the Brian Simpson Tradition.
